FAQ
Q 1. How long does it take to learn how to drive?
According to the DVSA or Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, it takes most people 45 hours of lessons to learn how to drive, plus 22 hours of practising before they pass their practical test.
That being said, there isn’t a set number of lessons or amount of practice you have to complete before you can take a driving test - some learners will require more, some much less. The most important part of the process is that you feel confident behind the wheel. That way you are more likely to pass your test and go on to be a safer driver when you do get out on the open road.
Q2. How to claim 40 hours free driving lessons?
A. You can get up to 40 hours of free driving lessons in the UK through the Motability Foundation Driving Lessons Grant Programme. [1, 2]
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the grant, you must meet all of the following conditions:
· Motability Scheme Customer: You must already lease a vehicle, scooter, or wheelchair through the Motability Scheme, or have a vehicle on order to arrive within four months (or need familiarisation lessons for adapted controls). [1, 2]
· Driving Licence: You must hold a valid UK provisional driving licence.
· Theory Test: You must have already passed your theory test before applying.
· Means-Tested Benefits: You must receive a government-assessed means-tested benefit (such as Universal Credit, Income Support, Employment and Support Allowance, or Housing Benefit), or be a full-time student under 25 whose parent/guardian receives a qualifying benefit.
What the Grant Covers
· Up to 40 hours of driving tuition arranged through the AA Driving School (or familiarisation lessons if you use adapted controls).
· Time limit: Lessons must generally be completed within 12 months of the grant being awarded.
· Exclusions: The grant does not cover the cost of the theory test or the practical driving test fees.
